Garden City shining light for our Titans

Toowoomba could be the spark the Gold Coast Titans need next season.

Titans players had a buzz about them as they walked through the Garden City hi-fiving and stopping to take photos with fans while in town for their pre-season camp this week.

After spending time with the senior squad, Western Mustangs chairman Paul Reedy said there was renewed enthusiasm amongst the group.

“I think they have realised they’re a club that’s really on the up,” he said.

“It’s the start of something and they’re pretty excited about it.

“And we get to etch ourselves into part of it.”

Reedy sat back and watched in awe as superstars of the game like Kevin Proctor, Jarrod Wallace and Ash Taylor interacted with their young fans.

“You see all this happening in other areas and now it’s happening in our own backyard,” Reedy said.

He expects to see more of the Titans in Toowoomba with their upcoming trial and NRL matches at Clive Berghofer Stadium next year.

“The Titans are coming up and making Toowoomba a bit of their base,” he said.

“They’re here and getting a feel for the game, using the same dressing sheds, same gyms.

“It shows how seriously they’re taking it.”

The Gold Coast club was already reaping the benefits of broadening their fan base regionally.

At their open training session on Tuesday the club sold about 100 Titans Toowoomba memberships within the first few hours they were released.

“They’re focusing on Toowoomba a lot more than any other NRL club has done in the past,” Reedy said.

“It’s a win for us and hopefully a win for them.”

Toowoomba fans were always getting behind what many now call their team.

“I’m sure we’ll see the Titans coming back in the future,” Reedy said.
