Dynamic Downs duo eyes World Cup title

-

If you want to be the best you have to beat the best – that will be Joshua Richards motto at the World Cup in Barcelona next week.

The Toowoomba player will represent Australia at the international tournament as part of the U21 Freelance Futsal Int’l team.

He will play alongside Toowoomba teammate Frederick Pfeiffer and the pair hopes to create a dynamic duo on the court.

“There is a chemistry element that helps, we know how each other move and play,” Richards said.

“Hopefully we can assist each other and maybe score a few goals.”

The Toowoomba duo will join players from Tasmania and Western Australia in the representative squad.

Richards has played futsal for five years and recalled two defining moments with Freelance Futsal this year.

He and Pfeiffer toured Perth and Melbourne and both played up in the U21s division which was a huge learning curve.

“I don’t think I would be anywhere near as good if I didn’t play at U21s nationals,” Richards said.

“It’s very fast. If you can’t keep up you’re not going to stay in the league.

“Leading into World Cup I’m going to be looking back on that tournament and try and improve from there.”

The pair heads to Barcelona on Christmas Day and will play on Wednesday.
