Warning after thieves strike properties

TWO fully-furnished display homes have been broken into and robbed of expensive appliances and furniture in separate suburbs.

One of the homes was described as being “emptied out” by thieves while security cameras were spray painted over at another home.

Now Toowoomba police are urging all home owners to be vigilant about property security as they search for those responsible.

A display home set up on Ramsay St in Middle Ridge was broken into sometime between December 20 and January 2.

It is believed the home, used as a building model, was left locked and secure, but police did not say how the thieves gained access to the property.

But “numerous amounts of property” were taken from the home, police said.

Another display home on Tallowwood Boulevard at Cotswold Hills was broken into between New Year’s Eve and January 1.

Police suspect the thieves forced entry through the front door which was damaged in the robbery.

A large lounge suite, two laptop computers, a fridge and an internet router were reported stolen from the home.

Both robberies were reported to police on the same day but that did not indicate display homes were being targeted in Toowoomba.

Instead, the thefts were a reminder for all property owners to ensure their homes were locked up and secured, with valuables kept out of sight from outside.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
