Milestone for rollout of scheme

-

THIS week marked the first anniversary since thousands of residents with disabilities in the Toowoomba region were able to access the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Toowoomba and the rest of south-west Queensland were among the first in the state to get access to the scheme, which was designed to give people more options for their care needs.

Carers Queensland is the local area coordinator for the region, and its chairman Jim Toohey said the rollout had been a cause for excitement.

“It has been very exciting to see the NDIS being rolled out across the state in partnership with Carers Queensland, and seeing so many people’s lives being changed for the better,” he said.

“NDIS and Carers Queensland both have people at their heart of their business, and are committed to ensuring that every

person has the chance to lead the most fulfilling and rewarding life possible.

“The community response to the scheme in the Toowoomba region has been overwhelmingly positive and one of the best parts of my job has been hearing the many positive stories of participants and their families who are now realising their dreams.”

While localised statistics are not yet available, there were more than 9700 approved plans across the state as of September. ARE you happy with the NDIS? Let us know at news@thechronicle.com.au.
