There are plenty of things to do in Toowoomba this weekend

1. Summer Tunes

WHEN: Tomorrow, 10am and noon WHERE: Various Toowoomba parks

TOOWOOMBA Regional Council’s popular Summer Tunes program is back.

Head to Queens Park, Laurel Bank, Picnic Point and Newtown Park to enjoy free live music.

Bring some snacks, a picnic blanket and a hat and settle in for some downtime.

2. USQ McGregor School

WHEN: Starts tomorrow morning

WHERE: USQ, various locations

Founded in 1969, McGregor has helped thousands of artists to achieve their full potential and is now the longest running visual and creative arts retreat in Australia.

There are still a few tickets available to this year’s summer retreat, so get in quick and enjoy a week feeding your creativity with a huge range of activities and workshops.

3. Brenda Earle Stokes concert

WHEN: Tomorrow, 7-8pm WHERE: USQ Concert Hall Brenda Earle Stokes is a Canadian-born, New York City-based internatio­nally recognised pianist, vocalist, composer, conductor and educator.

A classicall­y trained pianist, Brenda has earned degrees in jazz piano from York University in Toronto and jazz piano and voice from the Manhattan School of Music.

Come along to this free concert, held as part of the USQ McGregor School 50th anniversar­y.

4. Disc golf session

WHEN: Tomorrow, 4pm-5pm WHERE: West Creek Park between Alderley St and Stenner St, Kearneys Spring

Toowoomba Disc Golf Club is a friendly and relaxed group.

Disc golf is much like golf except a disc is thrown into a basket instead of a ball being hit into a hole.

It is a fun and challengin­g game that anyone can play.

If you’d like to give it a try, head along to this session and check it out.

5. Off-road RC racing

WHEN: Tomorrow, 7.30am-2pm, racing starts 9am

WHERE: Toowoomba Showground­s at the top of the hill behind the pavilion near the maintenanc­e yard

Toowoomba’s off-road remote control racing group is all set for the first race of 2018.

Head along to the showground­s and watch the action, or sign up to participat­e.

Don’t worry about your skill level. Crashes and going off track are regular occurrence­s. Marshals are there to help get your car back on track.

6. Sausage sizzle

WHEN: Tomorrow, 8am-4pm WHERE: Bunnings Toowoomba North

Kiyua Performing Arts group has long provided a way for students from a range of background­s to have the chance to perform in a dance troupe where they may otherwise be unable.

The group is holding a sausage sizzle at Bunnings Toowoomba North to help raise funds to keep the group running.

Pop down for a snag

sandwich and meet some of the members and supporters that keep this important club running.

7. Music at the Irish

WHEN: Today, 9pm

WHERE: Irish Club Hotel Catch local Toowoomba four-piece The Screaming Chokos live at the Irish Club Hotel.

Grab a few mates and head down to the Irish for an evening of great tunes.

The Screaming Chokos are known for their classic and modern rock covers.

8. Farm gate sales

WHEN: Today and tomorrow, 10am-3pm

WHERE: Paddock to Potager, 176 Merritts Creek Rd, Pechey

Enjoy the country air and reconnect with where your food comes from.

You can potter in the garden, enjoy coffee or a morning tea, browse through the farm stall, explore a working farm or bring the kids for a play with in the animal

nursery. All are welcome and entry is free.

9. Old time dance

WHEN: Tonight, 7.30pm to midnight

WHERE: Westbrook Hall, Main St, Westbrook

COME along to the Westbrook hall for a fun night of dancing. Entry is $15 and the wonderful Let’s Dance band will provide the tunes.

Dancers of all abilities are catered for so come along no matter what.

Even if you can’t dance you can enjoy the evening out and a huge home-made supper for $7.50.

10. Book sale

WHEN: Tomorrow, 7am-noon WHERE: 264 Stenner St The St Stephen’s and Middle Ridge Uniting Church Combined Mission Committee is holding a Holiday Reading Book Sale.

There will be a large variety of books for all ages on sale as well as a cake stall and morning tea.
