Cheryl’s doing hair for homeless

THOSE who would not normally get to sit in a salon chair are being given that chance by a Toowoomba hairdresser.

Studio CA owner Cheryl Bichel will open the doors of her Northpoint Shopping Centre salon a couple of times a month for homeless people, with the help of Base Services.

“It is our second birthday here this month and so I was thinking of things we could do to give back to our clients and I thought about giving to the actual community. So that is how it all came about,” Ms Bichel said.

“It is something I have always wanted to do. When I travelled last year to America I did witness a lot of homeless people so I thought we need to do that and help in our own community.”

Ms Bichel said part of being a hairdresser was to make people feel better.

“So to be able to do that for these people who never get to experience that is even a greater way of giving back,” she said.

Mum-of-six Ms Bichel said wanting to help out was a bit of a motherly instinct and she had even more plans to help out.

She hopes to have a blanket drive and collect other things to help the homeless like non-perishable food, toiletries and clothing. She will even had a 12-hour sale on January 18 for yearly hairdressing packages, with 10 per cent of sales to be donated.
