Snake man back in court

TOOWOOMBA snake catcher David Gregory Wiedman has had a number of charges mentioned before the city’s Magistrates Court.

The 36-year-old was not required to be in court when drug-related charges were briefly mentioned yesterday.

He was represented by MacDonald Law solicitor Alexandra Edwards who told the court her client’s matters were expected to go by way of registry committal up to the District Court.

Wiedman had initially appeared before the same court in September last year after being charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm arising from an alleged incident in which another man was allegedly struck with a crossbow arrow.

The charges mentioned in court yesterday included possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug utensils and not being endorsed to possess a restricted drug.

During an earlier court appearance, Wiedman’s then solicitor John Davis told the court some drugs allegedly found by police at his client’s home had belonged to someone else and he believed that other person would claim ownership of those drugs.

He has not been required to enter pleas to any of the charges.

Magistrate Damian Carroll excused Wiedman’s appearance at court and adjourned all matters for mention back in the same court on May 8 by which time it was envisaged all charges would have been put before the higher court.

Wiedman remains on bail.
