Group fundraises for discarded Bombay

A TOOWOOMBA animal rescue group is appealing for the public’s help to fund essential surgery for a mature dog abandoned at the pound.

Bombay, a 10-year-old mixed breed, was picked up by Off The Chain K9 Rescue on Friday with rotting, painful teeth, fleas and a growth protruding from her abdomen.

Coordinator Jess Otto said the group funded her vet bill worth more than $1000, and was asking residents to help recoup the cost.

“We don’t know much about her history other than her teeth were awful and painful, what wasn’t rotting from bad hygiene was worn away from nibbling fleas, we suspect,” she said.

“She’s an old girl, a little deaf and slightly blind but she’s so sweet and loyal and loves other dogs.

“It’s devastating to think someone could walk away from her knowing what fate she might have met had we not stepped in to save her.”

Ms Otto said the cost of healing and desexing dogs had a major impact on the group’s ability to help more stray and abandoned dogs.

“We hope to fundraise the expense of her surgery so we can take in more dogs,” she said.

“Any money we ‘lose’ on surgery like this means it’s one less dog we can save.

“The money has to come from somewhere and we can only save who we can afford.”
