Rural fire brigades snag sizzling boost

-

TWO of the region’s rural fire brigades will benefit from what has become a weekend tradition for home handymen and women.

Proceeds from the Bunnings annual Emergency Services Volunteer barbecue on Saturday, January 20, will support the Cabarlah and Cambooya rural brigades.

Both the Toowoomba North and Toowoomba West stores will host the charitable barbecue.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services deputy commissioner Mike Wassing said he was excited about the barbecue as “it’s great to see the community come together to help support the emergency services”.

“Our volunteers are dedicated to supporting the Queensland community before, during and after disasters and emergencies,” he said.

“It’s fantastic to see local residents getting involved in fundraising that supports and builds resources for our emergency volunteer services.”

The fry-up will run from 9am - 4pm, and all funds raised will go directly to the Cabarlah and Cambooya units.

Toowoomba Bunnings area manager Zoe Richards said the barbecue was a way to show appreciation for the volunteer crews.

“The team is looking forward to manning the barbecue and doing their bit to help raise funds and awareness at such a critical time of year for the Cabarlah Rural Fire Brigade and Cambooya Rural Fire Brigade,” Ms Richards said.
