Oakey woman serves up tasty treat for working truck drivers

-

SHE may hail from Thailand, but Oakey woman Lynda Birnie is the embodiment of the Australia spirit and lifestyle.

Lynda took it upon herself to make sure lonely truckies working through the festive season enjoyed a delicious Christmas feast.

She put out a call across social media for any truck drivers travelling the Warrego Highway in Queensland on Boxing Day to pull up on the pads near Oakey and enjoy a Christmas meal.

As the wife of a truck driver, Lynda knows what many truck drivers and the families go through – especially during the holiday seasons like Christmas.

“We are a trucking family and we know Christmas is approaching fast and, with all the festive cheer flying all over the nation, there will be those legendary truckies still on the road, away from their families, alone on the road,” she said.

“This is just the Aussie spirit – keeping it alive.

“Supporting our truckies is vital, no matter how big or small the gesture.

“It’s about family, mateship.”

Lynda’s delicious Christmas feast featured ham, pork roast and six kinds of salad plus soft drinks.

She said she had a lot of support on the day from truckies and lots of honking horns as well.

“The people that stopped gave a big thank you, took a photo and went on their merry way to make deliveries,” she said.
