A MAN who “put on a turn” in the emergency department of the Toowoomba Hospital during a drunken tirade has been ordered to do community service.

The drama started when police called to a disturbance at a Wilsonton Heights home about 4pm, December 1, found a drunk and aggressive Daniel John Humberdross bleeding from a knuckle.

Admitting he had been drinking all day, the 39-year-old told police he had punched the front door of the residence after being told to leave, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Police found he had damaged a door and a window at the residence and due to his injury took him to Toowoomba Hospital, police prosecutor Sergeant Mike Robinson said.

Being processed at the very busy emergency department, Humberdross became agitated and started yelling and swearing at police and hospital staff.

Sgt Robinson said at the time the emergency department was quite busy and a lot of children and families had witnessed the defendant’s tirade.

Humberdross pleaded guilty to wilful damage, public nuisance and obstructing police in a public place while intoxicated.

Duty solicitor Zara Rudan said her client acknowledged his offending was quite serious and stemmed from alcohol abuse.

Alcohol was a common denominator in her client’s history of offending which was something he wanted to address.

Magistrate Damian Carroll said the site of the tirade of abuse was more serious than had it been in a park or residence.

“This is in a public hospital with families, kids, doctors and nurses... and this fellow is putting on a turn,” Mr Carroll told the court.

Humberdross was ordered to do 120 hours community service and pay $185 restitution for damage caused. FAREWELL: After nearly 10 years Canning Town Patchwork owner Leah Paech is shutting up shop.
