Treat our cyclists with road respect

-

IT MAY be a surprise to many people but motorists and cyclists are not mutually exclusive groups.

Many cyclists are also motorists who do pay registration rees. The real question should be, what type of motorists are the rogue cyclists? Are they just as pigheaded and careless behind the wheel? You might have to agree. Also the rogue motorists, how well behaved would they be on two wheels?

As a motorist who also rides a bicycle at least three times a week, I have seen both “clans”. I try not to classify them as either motorist or cyclist but more correctly selfish idiot or thoughtful road user. — DAVID HACKER, Helidon

World changing

NOW that the acrimonious debate and subsequent, successful motion for marriage equality is passed, surely we are all entitled to a new year filled with peace, harmony and light for all. Particularly, it seems for those who pushed the gay marriage agenda and waved the rainbow flag in victory on the floor of parliament.

But then along comes retired Major-General Jim Molan who is set to soon join the august ranks of our Senate.

What would be the reaction if soon to be Senator Molan unfurls a flag of his own? It could read in big letters, his recent warning, “Only 19 days maximum supply of fuel and ammo left to defend us”.

It would go down like Senator Pauline Hanson rocking up for the senatorial day in her black burqa.

Trouble is, people like Jim Molan are capable of speaking the truth, unlike many of our politicians.

Luckily for us, Jim Molan is in that neutral zone of being a senator-appointed but not yet having taken his seat, so he can speak plainly without fear of party censure.

The world as we knew it is changing fast and our American friends’ influence and power is receding.

Uncle Sam may not come to our aid when called upon, because the American dream country and only protecting that may be more important.

If dire days come upon us, our political class may need to revisit the words of songwriter Frank Loesser, who wrote a famous song after the 1941 Pearl Harbour attack – Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. — PETER KNOBEL, Toowoomba
