36ers ready to extend win streak

BASKETBALL: The Adelaide 36ers will celebrate their rich history tonight as they set about creating some of their own this season.

Fresh from winning their past four games on the trot, the Sixers will play Sydney in a retro jersey throwing back to the 1990s as part of the NBL’s heritage month.

And they will take on the Kings full of confidence after they continued their unbeaten start to 2018 with a 10-point win over Cairns on Thursday night.

“It’s nice to string some (wins) together, I think we’re playing some good ball at this time of the year and getting great contributions from different players in different games,” coach Joey Wright said.

It wasn’t the usual suspects who got it done for Adelaide against the Taipans, with Mitch Creek and Nathan Sobey taking a back seat to the Brendan Teys (14 points), Ramone Moore (19 points) and Shannon Shorter (21 points) show.

Creek did not take a single shot in his 16 minutes, while fellow starter Sobey hit just two points from 13 minutes.

Wright praised Creek and the team’s selfless attitude for being prepared to spread the scoring.

“You look at probably our best player (Creek), he didn’t take any shots tonight and is happy with the win,” he said.

“The problem comes for coaches when I’ve got to walk in that locker room and look at a guy like him who’s a star player not just in our team but our national team, and he goes ‘man I didn’t get any buckets’.

“That’s when the trouble starts, but they make it easy for me.” Kings v 36ers 4.30pm, Hawks v Breakers 6.30pm
