Dave Hackett Cartooning When: Today (Monday, January 15) – 10am to 11am Where: Toowoomba City Library, Herries Street, Toowoomba

Super charge your summer at our cartooning workshop with author, cartoonist and regular visitor to kids TV, Dave ‘Cartoon Dave’ Hackett. Dave has taught cartooning to more than 150,000 children in schools, libraries, literature festivals and in newspapers and magazines across the country. The event is open to children eight years and up, and bookings are essential.

Empire Youth Arts Children Workshops

18 Hour Play Project

When: Tuesday, Jan 16 to Thursday, Jan 18 – 10am to 5pm

Where: Empire Theatre, 56 Neil Street, Toowoomba Students aged 10 to 15 years will work tirelessly with facilitato­rs to generate a unique performanc­e from the ground up. Learning the techniques of creative developmen­t, actor training and performanc­e skill, participan­ts will create a work that is truly inspired by them. For details – 1300 655 299.

Personalis­e your pencil case

When: Through to Sunday, January 21 – 10am to 1pm (daily)

Where: Centre Court, Grand Central Shopping Centre, Margaret Street

Cost: Free

Using fabric pens, your child can transform a plain calico pencil case into a practical piece of art that is as unique as they are.

For a permanent, washable design, attendees can simply heat-set their design at home using an iron.

The workshop is suitable for ages 3+.

Regional Movie Night – Harlaxton

When: Thursday, January 18 – 7pm to 9pm

Where: Harlaxton Park , Flynn Street, Toowoomba Everybody is welcome to come along to the movie night at Harlaxton Park (on the corner of Flynn and Doyle streets) where they can enjoy the Aussie comedy Red Dog True

Blue. This is the quintessen­tial Australian story of family, friendship and adventure. Entry is free and the Harlaxton Neighbourh­ood Centre is providing a barbecue (for a fee).

Da Vinci school holiday activities

When: Today (Fri, Jan 19) – 9.30am to 3pm

Where: Cobb+Co Museum, 27 Lindsay Street, Toowoomba Cost: $10 per Da Vinci Souvenir Activity Book

These school holidays you can take part in Da Vinci challenges including launching your own rockets and seeing what you can make fly in the wind tubes. The rocket launcher challenge will test your building skills and then you can make an object out of everyday materials and see if it will fly in the wind tube.

Enjoy our parklands

When: Whenever Where: Any of the region’s 566 parks

Cost: Free

Grab a bat and ball and head for your nearest park to enjoy the fabulous summer sun. You can play on the swings, ride your bike or throw a frisbee as you take in the wonderful green surrounds. Have a picnic or enjoy a barbecue with family and friends and don’t forget to bring your furry pals and let them be a part of your day out. It’s the perfect way to appreciate the beauty of the region.
