A FOOD and drink outlet aimed at attracting students from the nearby TAFE campus has been approved by the Toowoomba Regional Council.

Town planners Property Projects Australia submitted the proposal on behalf of applicants the Trebloc Super Fund in October for a site on the intersection of Bridge and Stuart Sts in Mount Lofty.

The lot features a house and commercial property, which has been historically used for a corner store, pool shop and catering business.

In the report submitted to the council, PPA’s director James Juhasz stated the new outlet would have a ready-made market because it was across the road from the Toowoomba TAFE campus.

“The proposed development involves the refurbishment and minor extension to the north of the existing commercial character building, which is proposed to be adaptively reused as a food and drink outlet,” he said.

“The proposed food and drink outlet will operate, at a maximum, between 7am and 6pm Monday to Sunday.

“The development will service the local residential catchment but also provide an alternative food and drink offering to students and staff of the adjacent TAFE facility.

“The latter is expected to form as a large component of the customer base and these customers are likely to walk to the proposed food and drink outlet.”

Toowoomba Regional Council planning officer Krys Den Hertog approved the proposal this week, with more than 60 conditions relating to the changes and its eventual operation.
