Yearling steers hit 394c

ROMA

THERE was a yarding of 7700 head at Roma Store sale this week.

All buyers were in attendance or represente­d.

A range of stock was on offer, with solid completion on better lines.

Mixed-sex calves less than 200kg topped at 364c to average 347c/kg.

Yearling steers topped at 394c to average 319c/kg.

Feedlot entry weight steers topped at 388c to average 309c/kg.

Heavy feeders made to a top of 299c to average 280c/kg.

Heavier milk and two tooth steers to slaughter made a top of 294c to average 279c/kg.

Yearling heifers made to 330c to average 304c across the board.

Cows topped at 216c to average 201c/kg across all weight ranges and cow-calf units made to $1580/unit.

Young bulls topped at 310 to average 267c and heavy bulls more than 600kg topped at 253c/kg.

DALBY

There was a yarding of 4779 head at Dalby Cattle sale, where there was a hive of activity with a solid demand for quality feeder cattle.

Cows were slightly back, about 7c/kg, and bulls were plentiful.

Lighter yearling steers to restockers and feed made to 310.2c, while heavier yearling steers topped at 275c/kg.

Quality heifers balanced between feedlot entry and restockers made to 295c to average 260c/kg.

Cows were selling at about 216c/kg at the time of this interim report.

TOOWOOMBA

THERE were a few more cattle yarded this week for a total of 651 head.

There were increased numbers of bullocks, steers and cows, and a good supply of young cattle. Quality of the young cattle was fairly good, although there was an odd pen of plain cattle throughout the sale.

There were several pens of well-finished yearlings that were suitable for the trade, however the largest percentage of the yearlings went to either feeders or restockers, with some good runs of well-bred steers and heifers offered.

The market was generally easier, with some sales up to 10c/kg easier.

Feeder steers sold to a top of 295c with medium weights averaging 292c, while restockers sold up to 379c/kg for light weights.

A single sale had a calf make 890c/kg for show potential.

Yearling heifers followed a similar price trend to the steers, with feeders averaging 277c, restockers to 323c and trade heifers selling to a top of 303c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle consisted of increased numbers of grown steers and heifers yarded, and cows were also in larger numbers.

Quality was fairly good, especially for the grown steers, with several pens of well-finished steers throughout the sale.

Steers held firm selling from 261c to 294c/kg for younger steers. Heifers, however, were slightly easier, topping at 265c/kg.

The cow market had little change, with medium weights averaging 192c and heavy cows reaching a top of 216c/kg.

BIGGENDEN

BURNETT Livestock and Realty’s meatworks and store sale on Monday had a yarding of 1197 head.

Heavy bulls topped at 258c; bullocks topped at 263c; cows more than 500kg topped at 225c; cows 400-500kg topped at 208c; trade heifers more than 400kg topped at 282c.

Simbrah bullocks from Takilberan sold for 265c/$1793 and santa gertrudis cross bullocks sold for 265c/$1788.

Grey brahman cows from Gayndah sold for 225c/$1389.

Brangus cross cows from Mundubbera sold for 222c/$1510.

Feeder steers 400-500kg sold to a top of 294c, while steers 300-400kg sold to 340c.

Steers 200-300kg sold to 350c.

Two tooth brahman steers from Byrnestown sold for 294c/$1384.

Milk tooth brangus steers from Wallaville sold for 293c/$1187 and two tooth brangus steers sold for 290c/$1198.

Droughtmas­ter milk tooth steers from Boompa sold for 340c/$1097.

Milk tooth charbray steers from Theodore sold for 309c/$1128.

Milk tooth angus steers from Binjour sold for 295c/$1136.

Cattle were drawn from Theodore, Takilberan, Tansey, Eumundi, Lowmead, Bucca, Childers, Gin Gin, Bundaberg, Gympie, Miriam Vale, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Maryboroug­h, Hervey Bay and all local areas.

The next meatworks and store sale is on Monday, January 29, and our all-breeds steer sale is on Thursday, February 8.

MURGON

SIX hundred and fifty were yarded in Murgon on Tuesday for the first sale of 2018.

Values for all descriptio­ns were slightly easier on the previous sale in December.

Numbers were drawn from Mundubbera, Mt Perry, Gayndah, Kingaroy, Nanango and locally.

Heavy bulls sold to 255c/kg for a top of $2630. Brahman steers 493kg sold to 278c/kg.

Export heifers sold to 279c/kg and $1220.

Heavy cows more than 500kg averaged 215c/kg, topping at 228c/kg and $1410. Cows 400-500kg sold to 212c/kg.

Very few cows less than 400kg were yarded and topped at 195c/kg.

Brahman steers from Murgon sold for $1145 at 281c/kg.

A line of 64 droughtmas­ter milk and two tooth droughtmas­ter steers from Myora Pastoral Johnstown sold to 309c/kg, averaging 292c/kg and $994.

Two pens of local gelvieh steers sold for 302c/kg, returning $1186 and $1003.

Hereford steers 325kg from Proston sold for 307c/kg, returning $998.

G and T Campbell Paradise Dam sold two pens of santa weaner steers for $861 (319c) and $760 (349c/kg).

Droughtmas­ter cross weaner steers on account D Williams, Gayndah, sold for $825 at 330c/kg.

Charbray heifers 412kg from Merlwood sold for 271c/kg for $1119. Gelvieh heifers 330kg from Murgon sold to 291c/kg for $965.

Droughtmas­ter cross heifers weighing 320kg on account W and M Hankinson sold for $898 at 280c/kg.

Santa weaner heifers 230kg from the Campbell family sold for 317c/kg to return $735.

G Monaghan, Redgate, sold droughtmas­ter weaner heifers for $603 at 299c/kg.

Brangus cows and calves sold to $1400.

CROWS NEST

TERRIFIC kick-off to the year on Saturday.

Nangara Angus, Emu Creek, sold a line of brangus cows and calves at $1500 with a line of lighter angus cows and calves for $1370

T and N Kritikou sold droughtmas­ter cows and calves to $1550, $1365 and mid-size cows to $1050.

C and S Bell, Silverleig­h, presented excellent brangus weaner heifers to $865 along with charolais cross weaner steers $935 and $875.

R Dahl, Ravensbour­ne, sold mixed angus cattle with a lovely steer to $1480, cows and little bulls to $950.

B and C Kereczko, Ravensbour­ne, sold meatworks bulls to $1200 and light charolais cross heifers to $750.

Light charbray heifers, ex Haden, to $850.

MORETON

AGENTS Boyd, O’Brien Bartholome­w reported a yarding of 680 head of cattle at Moreton on Tuesday.

Yearlings and vealers remained firm, with export cattle slightly easier on last year’s closing results.

Dianne Gloag of Toogoolawa­h sold Euro cross yearling heifers for 299.2c/kg, weighing 290kg to return $867.

Yearling steers account R Redinger sold for 329.2c/kg, weighing 290kg to return $954.

Feeder heifers account M and J O’Reilly of Boonah sold for 293.2c/kg, weighing 302kg to return $886.

Feeder steers account R Redinger sold for 303.2c/kg, weighing 360kg to return $1091.

Biarra Valley Cattle Co sold grain assist simmental steers for 297.2c/kg, weighing 420kg to return $1248.

Charbray weaner steers account P and M Masen sold for 341.2c/kg, weighing 260kg to return $889.

Samuel Holdings sold brahman cross cows sold for 215.2c/kg, weighing 495kg to return $1065.

G Ahearn of Mt Walker sold charbray cows for 220.2c/kg, weighing 660kg to return $1453.

Tom Crowley sold charolais bulls for 244.2c/kg, weighing 890kg to return $2173.

GRACEMERE

CQLX agents and vendors began the 2018 selling year by offering 2073 head.

The cattle were drawn from most areas of central Queensland and their condition reflected the wide variation in the prevailing seasonal conditions.

There were some plain conditione­d cows and young cattle on offer, along with excellent pens of finished cattle and forward conditione­d weaners and growers.

A full buying panel assembled and worked all day on uncertain limits, with uncertaint­y regarding the season, market and future supply evident in bidding.

Generally, finished cattle were 5-7c/kg easier than concluding sales of 2017 and almost all restocker and feeder lines were much easier.

Calves sold to 367c for males, with mixed-sex averages of 316c/kg.

The better bred vealer steers sold to 373c on occasions to return averages from 312-330c/kg.

Restockers averaged 286c for their vealer heifers, with those to feed and background making 268c/kg on average.

Yearling steers made to 320c on occasion, although averages were from 278-289c/kg from feeders.

Yearling heifers were well supplied and mixed and the best sold to 290c, but most sold from 258-277c/kg to restockers and feeders.

Grown steers to feed also reached 289c, while four score bullocks reached 268c and averaged 262c/kg to processors. Grown heifers averaged 230c to trade buyers and heavy four score cows made to 223c to average 213c, 4c/kg back on the sale at the end of 2017.

Cows with good frame and well-presented calves at foot reached $1550 to sell from $1400/unit.
