HOI AN MAGICAL AT SUNSET

-

As the sun sets on another fantastic day in this vibrant Vietnamese paradise, Hoi An’s waterfront and river become a hive of activity and colour.

Pretty wooden boats draw tourists, keen to soak up the historic ambience on a boat ride down its waters.

Locals trade wares from boats groaning with all manner of weird and wonderful produce and children line the riverfront foreshore selling their colourful lit paper lotuses to tourists.

With a wish and a prayer, the lotuses will be placed in the river and sent on their way into the night.

As night falls, the Thu Bon River takes on a magical hue, as the lights from hundreds of paper lanterns are reflected in its shimmering waters.

Wander the foreshore taking in this water wonderland, before making your way to one of Hoi An’s stunning riverfront cafes or restaurants, and enjoy a meal or drink from the upstairs balconies. The view over the waterfront and river is just magical.

Afterwards, take the opportunity to wander the streets and see the ancient houses and landmarks such as the Hoi An Japanese bridge lit up.

You may also find traditional dance performances and people playing the traditional game of bai choi, similar to the game of bingo.

If you are keen to stay out late to see what the city’s night-life offers, you will find most of the action in the Old Town and by the river. Expect cheap and cheerful beer and live music.
