Countdown to hottest music

Humble may have topped Triple J’s Hottest 100, but for the crowd at the Spotted Cow counting down 2017’s top songs on Saturday, Australian band Gang of Youths was the real winner.
Spotted Cow publican Phil Coorey said the countdown was “probably the most fun (he’s) had at the pub watching a live event go down” in years.
“I was dancing on the table by the time Gang of Youths got a third song in the top 10,” he said.
“There was no surprise with Humble. Everyone was pretty happy.
“It is from one of the best rap albums ever made. It’s an exceptional song.”
The countdown used to be held on Australia Day, though this year Triple J moved it to the final Saturday of January.
Mr Coorey said the move did not impact the Spotted Cow’s event.
“As I got talking to people, they all said they’d listen to the Hottest 100 whenever it is on,” he said.
“As long as it’s not the first day of the Ashes.
“It flowed really well this year, with Australia Day one day and then the Hottest 100 the next.”
Mr Coorey said he could not wait to bring some of the artists in the countdown to Toowoomba.
The Smith Street Band, which came in at number 21 with their song Birthdays and number 49 with their track Passiona, will perform at the Cow on April 12.
He said every time a band or artist who had performed at the Cow came on, the crowd showed their support.
“Gang of Youths, Vera Blue, Meg Mac, DZ Deathrays, they got behind us here in Toowoomba, so a huge cheer went up for them,” he said.
