Ready, set... wriggle
From worm races to rides, there was heaps to do at annual event
HUNDREDS of people descended on Crows Nest on Saturday for the annual Crows Nest Day celebration.
Organiser Katrina James said the event was held at a different time of year to what it usually was.
“We had that week of rain in October when it was supposed to be,” she said.
“We couldn’t have it in the park because of the rain and so had to make the call a few days before.
“Thankfully it did rain all day on that Saturday so it was a good call on our half.”
Ms James said the move to the Australia Day weekend had meant crowd numbers decreased.
“Unfortunately we have lost about half of what we get for Crows Nest Day by moving, but because of the deposits we paid we only had a three-month period we could move it to,” she said.
“With Australia Day, we thought we might get some crowds through, which we have.”
Ms James said Crows Nest Day would return at its usual time in October this year, meaning there would be two Crows Nest Days in 2018.
“It’s lots of work, but it’s exciting,” she said.
Four year old Kalamity-Jane Voss just made the height restriction for a large stand-up spinning ride, which she went on several times in a row.
“I liked putting my hands up and going high of the ground,” Kalamity-Jane said.
Her mother Kristine Voss said the family had recently moved to the area and loved the event.
“We’re getting to know the locals here and make a few friends,” she said.
