Lions ready to roar in new-look DDAFL season

-

Rob Baker is excited about the 2018 DDAFL season.

The 34-year-old is back in Highfields Lions colours and ready to lead from the front as the club’s layer/coach.

“I’m really excited about this challenge,” Baker said.

“With the competition returning to one division this year it’s going to be tough but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Baker believes the club’s unity will be a key factor in the campaign this year.

“When I first joined the club I could tell there was a real sense of community,” Baker said.

“The juniors and the seniors are united and you don’t always see that.

“I really want to continue to build and strengthen that spirit because it’s a strength of the club.

“We’re going to need to a lot of hard work to make sure we are up to standard but we’re up for the challenge and ready to go.”

Baker said the Lions had retained the majority of their players from last season and added a few players from Brisbane and other regions.

“We’ve picked up a few players which help,” he said.

“And importantly we’ve kept most of last year’s team as well.

“Quite a few of the younger players are ready to step up again which is great

Baker said the Lions would love to take a run at the finals but their first goal will be to produce a competitive team.

“We would love to be playing finals footy at the end of the season,” he said.

“But our first goal is to be competitive.”

The Lions train at Kratzke Oval on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm.
