Finals hopes on the line

Met-Easts and Railways battle it out for key win

-

Metropolitan-Easts and Highfields Railways continue their search for a two-day win this weekend.

According to Ross Milton, his team Met-Easts’ season is on the line.

“Both teams are chasing a result to keep their finals hopes alive,” he said.

Day one was washed out last weekend which leaves the teams with Saturday to get a result.

“Hopefully the captains get together to make sure there is a result,” Milton said.

Ideally, he would like to see the game treated as a one-day match.

“It does make it a little bit more challenging,” he said.

“An outright win would obviously help us out and a first innings win would keep us on track.”

Coming off the back of two draws Milton said winning the last two rounds were crucial for Met-Easts.

Perhaps even more for Highfields Railways who are coming off a loss and bye.

“It’s a big game for both teams,” Milton said.

“Everyone will be out to perform.”

Milton believed Met-Easts strength was their fielding.

“We have certainly done our time in the field,” Milton.

He said some consistency with the ball would go a long way to winning them the game.

“Batting first would be a nice change too,” Milton laughed.

However whichever way the coin drops Met-Easts will cop it on the chin.

“The pitch has been pretty hard which has made wickets tough to come by,” Milton said.

“In saying that though when we have had our chance to bat we haven’t been left a lot of time to take large totals down.

“So that leaves one option; you don’t have opportunity to win the game so you go for next best result which is a draw.”

In other two-day matches University will play Wests at Heritage Oval.

■ IN WEEKEND rep cricket last week’s cancelled Webb Shield game between Toowoomba and Warwick will be played tomorrow at Rockville Park from 9.30am.
