Students gather for movie night
Families enjoy screening of Secret Life of Pets at special outdoor cinema
HAVE you ever wondered where the money from your democracy sausage you bought on Election Day goes?
Parents at Rangeville State School discovered the answer last week when the school’s P&C hosted a free movie night for the students.
P&C secretary Julie Shinners said it was the second year the P&C had run the movie night.
“It was a welcome to the start of the year for all of the families,” she said.
“The P&C used some funds we raised from the election day cake stall to hire the screen from Toowoomba Regional Council and the movie from Village Roadshow.
“Families brought along a picnic and came along to watch the movie, it’s a great community building exercise. All of our students and families come along.”
She said families all watched the film Secret Life of Pets.
“It’s always a fantastic night, a really brilliant atmosphere,” she said.
“As we have to wait until dark, the kids all play before the movie starts.
“It just helps create a nice family community atmosphere for the school.”
Ms Shinners said it was set to be a big year for the P&C.
“We have our fete on September 1, that will be our massive event.
“It will be from 10 to 3 at the school grounds.
When we had our last fete in 2016, which was pretty massive as well, one of the things we did was dunk Councillor Geoff McDonald in the dunking tank and we’re hoping to do that again this year.”
She said the P&C would host a number of other events on top of the fete.
“We’ll also do a fun run, we did one last year which was a high fundraiser,” she said.
“We’ll also have a bush dance.”
Ms Shinners said the funds raised from all of these events would go towards a new playground.
“It will be for our Prep to Year 2 students, for the younger kids,” she said.
“Playgrounds are very expensive.
“We’re hoping to get that happening at some point this year.”
