TOOWOOMBA women love their novels sexy and intriguing but will they dare to be seduced by a new, even more explicit range of titles from Australia’s leading romance publisher?

NewsRegional research shows Mills & Boon sold 10,457 novels in Toowoomba during 2017, with one third of fans falling in love with the brand’s Sexy range.

The Intrigue series is the second most popular range with its page turners most loved by one in eight local readers.

Western Romance Duo, Australian Romance and Romantic Suspense round out the top five Mills & Boon genres in our region.

The company sold 1.1 million electronic and print books in 2017 and expects that figure to climb this year.

Setting female hearts aflutter for 110 years, the iconic book publisher reckons our region’s romantics will fall in love with its newly released Dare series that features strong women who throw the romance rule book out the window.

Author Clare Connelly’s Off Limits is one of the launch titles and the 35-year-old says the range would get hearts racing.

“I write romance that takes you into the bedroom,” the writer of more than 50 titles said.

“I like to write the intimate scenes that come from an emotional place and further the narrative of the love story – it’s not just sex for the sake of sex.

“The Mills & Boon Dare titles are the next level – they are very contemporary and quite graphic, driven by the physical and emotional connection.”

Helen Sibbritt started reading Mills & Boons about 45 years ago and passion for the books has not waned.

“I love the escapism,” the 60-year-old grandmother said.

“I really enjoy the new Dare line – I’ve read four of them and they are really, really good.

“The stories are awesome – they are sensual and heart-warming.”

Publisher Kita Kemp said romance novels had changed over the years, with books being available as digital and print editions.

Ms Kemp said modern romance writers were presenting female leads who were in control in and out of the boudoir.

“These novels are written by women for women who understand what women like,” Ms Kemp said.
