RUGBY LEAGUE: One of them will be fighting alongside him this NRL season, the other plotting his demise, but both rate him as a real talent.

In Toowoomba last week for the Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans trial game, Alex Glenn and Kane Elgey spoke to The Chronicle about our own Ashley Taylor.

Elgey and Taylor are a good chance to feature alongside each other as the Titans’ preferred halves combination this season and Elgey is excited.

“He (Taylor) is a freak - a great player,” Elgey said.

“I’ve played him growing up. I’m one year above him and versed him in the 20s and I’ve got to play with him in the past two years.

“I’ve learned a lot from him and he’s a player for the future.

“I think he’ll be good for a Maroons jersey if he keeps it up.”

Broncos forward Alex Glenn first saw glimpses of Taylor’s potential during their time together at Brisbane.

“I rate Ash Taylor a lot,” Glenn said.

“I remember him from the Broncos - he was a great bloke and a good footballer.

“It’s great to see what he’s done and how he has improved over the past few years.

“The thing about Ash is he’s still really young but he’s very football smart. He sees things that a lot of footballers don’t see.

“He’s a great player and he’s got a really bright future.”

Taylor and the Gold Coast Titans will return to Toowoomba in March for their round three NRL clash.
