Residents need to make NBN switch

-

THE deadline for homes and businesses in parts of Toowoomba to switch their landline phone and internet over to the NBN is fast approaching.

The existing copper network in the area is due to be disconnected early next month, which means residents have to make the switch if they wish to continue using their landline phone and internet services.

Residents and businesses in parts of Glenvale, Torrington, Wilsonton and Middle Ridge have until Friday, March 9 to make the switch.

The rollout of the NBN is an upgrade to Australia’s landline phone and broadband network.

After this time, the NBN will replace most existing landline phone and internet services and the copper network will be decommissioned.

Head of NBN local Queensland Ryan Williams urged residents to make the switch.

“While the majority of households have switched to the NBN, there are those yet to do so and they risk being disconnected once the copper network is decommissioned early next month,” he said.

“We are particularly urging people with special equipment, including EFTPOS terminals and medical and security alarms, which operate using a landline phone connection, to check with their preferred service provider about their assistance in moving these services across to the NBN.”
