1. Chinese New Year

WHEN: Tomorrow, 10am-2pm WHERE: Civic Square Library

Come to the free community event to celebrate Chinese New Year. There will be food and market stalls and a program of entertainm­ents including the popular Lion Dance. Kids, come dressed in your favourite Asian outfit and win a prize. Judging takes place after the Lion Dance. Take a photo with the lion head costume, have a go at Chinese calligraph­y or try Chinese majong game, abacus the Chinese calculator or paper folding.

2. Flickerfes­t

WHEN: Today, 6.30pm-10.30pm

WHERE: Armitage Centre at the Empire Theatre

Flickerfes­t is back in 2018 at the Armitage Centre at the Empire Theatre. Flickefest is the country’s largest Australian and internatio­nal short film competitio­n and the event will be screening the best of Australian shorts, hand-picked from 2500 entries. The event is free for all Empire cardholder­s, but costs $15 for non-cardholder­s.

3. Pig Day Out

WHEN: Today, 2pm-late WHERE: Blue Mountain Hotel, 264 New England Highway

Blue Mountain Hotel’s Pig Day Out will feature real pig racing, live music, food and drink, market stalls, fairy floss, snow cones, face painting, an animal zoo, pony rides and more. 4. Farmers Markets

WHEN: Today, 7am-1pm WHERE: Cobb and Co Museum The weekly My Local Feast Farmers Markets will be held at the Cobb and Co museum from 7am to 1pm. There will be a range of farmers selling local, in-season produce. For more informatio­n on the markets, phone Josie on 0432 267 003.

5. Skateboard­ing Workshop

WHEN: Today, 1.30pm WHERE: Chalk Drive Skate Park, Cnr Chalk Drive and Hume St

Is it time to enhance your skateboard­ing skills? Want to learn some new tricks? Come down to Chalk Drive Skate Park for free monthly skateboard­ing workshops from February until June. Bookings are essential. Register at australian­skateboard­ing. com/events.

6. Kendo Have a Go

Day WHEN: Today, 10am-3pm WHERE: Salo Centre, St Ursula’s College, Taylor St Kendo is the modern sport and martial art based on the ancient sword traditions of the Japanese Samurai. This event presents a rare opportunit­y for the Toowoomba community to come and try Kendo under the guidance of some of Queensland’s best teachers and practition­ers, including members of the Queensland State Squad competing at this year’s Australian Kendo Championsh­ips. 7. Apple and Grape Harvest Festival

WHEN: Today and tomorrow WHERE: Multiple locations in Stanthorpe

The Apple and Grape Harvest Festival will continue in Stanthorpe this weekend with a busking competitio­n, wine masterclas­ses and a special event celebratin­g Italian Culture on the Granite Belt. 8. Head to the Circus

WHEN: Today and tomorrow WHERE: Queen’s Park Hudson’s Circus will host four shows this weekend in its big tent at Queen’s Park this weekend. There will be a show at 4pm and 7pm tonight, while tomorrow the shows will be at 11am and 2pm. The circus will be in town until March 4. Tickets range from $15 to $57. 9. Community bushwalk

10. Summer Tunes

WHEN: Tomorrow, 10am-3pm WHERE: Queen’s Park, Picnic Point, Laurel Bank Park, Newtown Park

Toowoomba Regional Council’s Summer Tunes program provides free, live music at popular parks in the Toowoomba region and is a great way to relax with friends and family. Bring some snacks, a picnic blanket and a hat and settle in for some downtime.

The Queens Park event, featuring lullabies, gospel and rock music, will run from 10am to noon, while the Picnic Point event will feature hits from the ’50s to now. Events at Newtown Park, featuring swing and jazz music, and Laurel Bank Park, featuring hits from the ’60s to ’90s, will run from noon to 3pm.
