Harvest festival kicks off
STANTHORPE’S most eagerly anticipated event, the 2018 Apple and Grape Harvest Festival, kicked off with a night of music and fun last night.
The turning on of the festival lights last night marked the official start of 10 days of events celebrating the wine and produce of the Granite Belt.
Festival president Greg Thouard said the entertainment would continue today.
“We hope Stanthorpe will turn out in force to see the festival and enjoy the atmosphere,” Mr Thouard said.
“This is a great way to get into the festival spirit, with a small taste of what is to come on the festival week.”
Today the Apple and Grape Harvest Festival committee will team up with Stanthorpe Rotary to present Busking@Stanthorpe, the South East Queensland Regional finals of the Australian Busking Championships.
About 30 buskers from throughout southern Queensland and northern NSW will perform in the main street from 9am-3.30pm, before moving to Weeroona Park for a free concert from 4pm.
You can help choose the winner by buying ‘‘Busker Dollars’’ and giving them to your favourite busker. While in Stanthorpe, drop in to the Stanthorpe gallery to see more than 200 works by local artists on display in LAF (Local Arts Festival) Out Loud. The exhibition will be shown during the festival from 10am-4pm daily (except Monday).
The Apple and Grape Harvest Festival runs until March 4.
