THIS IS WHAT A MODERN WOMAN’S FANTASY LOOKS LIKE

- WORDS: HELEN HAWKES Helen Hawkes is a UNIFAM-qualified counsellor and life coach – helenhawkes.org

A trip to my local newsagent is usually accompanied by boobs. Sometimes bottoms. But hardly any clothing.

No, it’s not me in my bikini and board shorts or even my best lingerie. It’s porn magazines for men, freely available and on display here, although not in all newsagencies across Australia.

Curious, isn’t it, given that it’s 2018 and we’re all about not objectifying or harassing women – #timesup right?

Apparently not only do some retailers consider it OK to peddle magazines like this but to have them out there for women to contend with when they come in to get their Saturday paper. It’s a bit of a slap in the face.

PornHub, one of the industry’s biggest providers, claims their site streamed 75GB of data a second in 2016, a total of 87.8 billion views. And according to statistics, porn sites get more visitors each month than Netflix, Amazon and Twitter combined. We’re talking billions in profits.

I don’t know how much of that can be attributed to women looking at porn. Hence it was with much excitement that I, a single, independent feminist who likes men but would prefer they don’t display lewd magazines where I buy my newspaper, discovered some online porn I actually like.

Yes, you read that right. It’s called cabinporn.com – check it out.

I know what you’re thinking. It’s risque shots of couples in cabins that can be enjoyed by women and men in their, er, private time. And you’re right about the second part.

It is fantasy material for adults, especially those who have to contend with such front-page atrocities as Barnaby Joyce’s sex life and Donald Trump’s hairspray #fail as he boards Air Force One.

Simply put, cabinporn.com features fabulous cabins and some plain old shacks in the middle of nowhere that you can imagine running away to when you’ve had enough of dealing with the realities of being a grown-up in the 21st century.

Although, be warned, it does tend to spark a bit of cabin envy.
