HOW TO: HOMEMADE BABY WIPES

- STAY AT HOME MUM WORDS: JODY ALLEN

Baby wipes are a must-have not just for your bubs, but for mums too – for just about anything.

YOU WILL NEED

An old baby wipe container or old lunch box with a lid and a slit cut in the top. Wipes. I like to cut up an old flannelette sheet or nightie, or soft face washers. Don’t use kitchen towels – it’s way too harsh for little bums. Another option is brand new Chux kitchen cloths or similar. Solution (choose one below).

‘MY BUM IS DIRTY MUMMY’ RECIPE

1 cup of fresh tap water

1 tbsp of natural baby or castile soap 1 tbsp coconut oil

Mix the ingredients in a cup and pour over the wipes. Leave for four hours.

‘GENTLE ON MY BUM’ RECIPE

1 chamomile teabag

1 tsp almond oil

1 cup hot water

Steep the teabag in the hot water for 30 minutes. Discard the teabag. Add the oil and mix well. Pour over the wipes and leave for four hours before use.

STEPS

1. Cut the baby wipes to the size of the container and lay them flat.

2. Pile them up so the container is full.

3. Pour your chosen solution into the container and place the lid on top.

4. Give it a good soak for a few hours.

5. Carefully turn the container upside down before use to drain excess liquid. If no liquid comes out, test the wipes for dampness. If they are too dry, add a bit more solution.

Your wipes should last about five days in the container. Best of all, throw used wipes in the wash and you can use them again.
