Women work hard to lift game

-

South West Queensland Thunder women’s coach Scott Teakle cannot fault the passion and dedication of his young side.

Despite suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat to Capalaba at the weekend Teakle said his players were committed to training to training this week.

“We had about 30 players at training between the two squads this week,” he said.

“They know there’s a lot for us to work on but they’re committed to improving and working hard.

“I can’t fault that in any of the players they’re showing up and doing the work.”

Teakle said the team had been focused on improving their transition to defence.

“One of the key areas we’ve been working on is getting back into defence quicker,” Teakle said.

“I’ve been talking to the players about not dwelling on their mistakes.

“If they make a mistake, in attack or defence, I want them to move on quickly. I want them to maintain a positive focus and win the ball back or take another shot at goal.

The Thunder face Logan away from home this weekend and Teakle expected plenty of goals.

“I think Logan are in a similar position to us,” he said.

“We’re a young side and a lot of the girls are really still learning the finer points of the game.

“We’ve shown this season we can score a few goals and I hope we can do that this weekend.

“I think if we can tighten things up even a little bit in defence we’re in with a good shot at grabbing a win.”

The women travel to Cornubia Park for a 6pm kick-off.
