CHAMPION light heavyweight boxer Damien Duncan Hooper will have to front Toowoomba Magistrates Court today after being charged with allegedly breaching a condition of his bail.

The 26-year-old was represented by a solicitor and normally would not be required to attend court for the mere mention of his charges.

However, his solicitor Amber Acreman had not realised her client had a fresh charge laid against him.

Ms Acreman told the court she had spoken with Hooper earlier in the morning and, because he lived in Ipswich, had advised him that he wouldn’t be required in court.

However, police prosecutor Sergeant Tim Hutton told the court because it was alleged Hooper had breached a condition of bail he would be required to attend court.

Hooper had been in custody on a series of charges but was released on Supreme Court bail last Thursday, the court heard.

The 26-year-old is accused by police of pushing a woman known to him from a moving car and holding her against her will during a two-day incident in Toowoomba last November.

Police also alleged Hooper burnt the woman's leg with a cigarette.

He has not been required to enter any pleas to the charges and has said in the past that he would defend the matters.

Magistrate Damian Carroll said he would adjourn the case over to today when Hooper would be required to front court and sign bail.

Mr Carroll issued a Police Powers and Responsibility Act arrest warrant but ordered it lie on the file and not yet be activated.
