Lightning strikes down Thunder in NPLW clash

-

SOCCER: South West Queensland Thunder women gave their fans a glimpse of what they are capable of on Tuesday night.

Unfortunately for the young NPLW side, that glimpse was not enough to secure them victory against Logan Lightning.

Coach Scott Teakle said his side was excellent over the first 45 minutes before falling to a 4-1 defeat - conceding three goals in the second half.

“I thought we were fantastic in the first half of the game,” Teakle said.

“The girls did everything we spoke about after our last game, the focused on the areas we wanted to improve in and implemented our game plan really well.

“Unfortunately for us there was just a small period where we fell away in the second half and that cost us.”

Teakle said fatigue and “ill discipline” were telling factors in the second half.

“We lost a bit of our shape and focus when we started to fatigue in the second half,” Teakle said.

“Full credit to Logan. They were clever and really tried to pull us out of position and it cost us.”

Despite the loss Teakle said there were plenty of positives in the performance.

“The girls really applied themselves in the first half,” he said.

“They worked hard and if we can extend that effort for longer periods we be a lot more competitive.”
