Toowoomba cruise to shield win
CRICKET: Toowoomba Cavaliers retained the Webb Shield with ease yesterday.
Cavaliers bowlers were dominant once again bowling Ipswich for 79 in the 32nd over of the match.
Toowoomba representative coach Kent Reimers paid credit to his bowling unit who bowled a team out for less than 80-runs for the second time this season.
“I think we’re at a bit of advantage at home,” Reimers said.
“A lot of teams win the toss and go into bat first.
“What they don’t realise is the the pitch can be a bit soft and tricky in the morning before it hardens up later in the day.
“But I have to pay credit to our bowling attack as well.
“Dan Anderson did the damage early and Matt Hallas bowled a superb spell as first change.
“They (the bowlers) just don’t give our opposition any respite – they bowl as a unit and keep the pressure on.”
In reply Cavaliers easily accounted for Ipswich’s meagre total losing just two wickets.
“Chris Gillam took it away early from them,” Reimers said.
“He (Gillam) had a really good knock of 45.
“Lou Reen finished on 19 not out and did a good job of just anchoring down the other end while Chris did the damage.”
Plunkett Cup
Late yesterday Reimers said Toowoomba’s Plunkett Cup side was set a difficult task by Queensland Sub Districts.
At the time of press Toowoomba had lost a number of early wickets as they started to chase down more than 280 runs in Brisbane.
The Chronicle will publish a more substantial report of the match later this week.
