THE Queensland Government wants a Darling Downsbased contractor to build the new $10.5 million performing arts centre at Centenary Heights State High School.

The Department of Education and Training opened the construction tender period last week for the major project, three months after The Chronicle revealed the plans for it.

In the tender documents, the department stated it wanted to hear from contractors who had an office in the Darling Downs, as a well as a highlevel pre-qualification certification from the Queensland Government.

“The project includes the construction of a new building with associated site wide infrastructure, covered walkways and external works,” it stated on the website.

“Tender submissions will be accepted from contractors with a minimum PQC rating level three, a permanent office in the Darling Downs region and third-party quality assurance.”

Brisbane-based school facility specialist Honeywill Consulting is the project manager for the construction period.

DET told The Chronicle in December the new building would feature a stage area, learning rooms, dance studio, dressing and make-up rooms, ticket office and foyer.

Once completed, it is expected to be one of the biggest performing arts centres in Toowoomba.

The department did not respond to questions relating to the tender before deadline.

The tender period closes on April 3.
