Jamie continues to Shine
Reflecting on two decades in the legal business
AS A youngster growing up in Toowoomba with three siblings, Jamie Shine always knew she wanted to become a career professional.
From simple rural beginnings, the country girl is now kicking goals in the big smoke as special counsel of Shine Lawyers’ major claims team.
“I have the privilege of helping seriously injured people and their families navigate the most difficult time of their lives - helping them access rehabilitation, home modifications and other necessities,” she said.
Jamie’s dad worked at Toowoomba’s Heritage Bank and her mum was a hairdresser, but it was her uncle, Kerry Shine, whose footsteps she followed in.
“In those days I started out as an articled clerk at Shine Toowoomba earning terrible money and studying at the same time.
“We had just three offices back then.”
The 35 year old is still with the firm 18 years on and has been grateful for the opportunities she has been given during this time.
As a mother of a two-yearold daughter, Jamie says at times it can be really difficult navigating the balance of being a mum, professional and wife yet certain things help keep it all in perspective.
“For me it’s about being grateful and taking the time to reflect. My role offers me endless amounts of purpose, I keep active and also surround myself with inspiring friends and family.”
Jamie was recently appointed to the board of Youngcare, a not-for-profit organisation that helps young people with high-care needs access age appropriate housing.
