League of its own now channelling greatness

-

AFTER some big off-season buys, a gruelling pre-season and a couple of key positional changes, the Fox League team is back and ready for another big year.

Four new shows and a big revamp for Matty Johns’ flagship program marks a new-look line-up for rugby league’s only dedicated channel.

The biggest change has Monday Night With Matty Johns shifting to Sundays, with Grill Team co-host Emma Freedman joining them.

Taking its spot is Big League Wrap, hosted by Yvonne Sampson, which covers the week’s biggest headlines with James Hooper and Michael Ennis.

Queenslanders Only on Tuesday nights will have a new host in Hannah Hollis alongside former Maroons greats Mal Meninga, Justin Hodges, Kevin Walters, Corey Parker and Gorden Tallis.

Fox League now boasts 11 entertainment programs.

Fox Sports head of television Steve Crawley believes the new shows and line-up changes will build on what

Fox League achieved in its first year and mirror the channel’s mantra of “Different, better, special”.

“We’re marching into the 2018 season with new shows, talent and motivation and just weeks from kick-off it feels like we’re counting down to Christmas,” Crawley said.

Ennis (pictured), one of Fox League’s rising stars after making a successful transition from player to commentator, has been given his own show.

Ennis will host The Greatest on Wednesday nights, which will relive some of the biggest moments in league.

“I’m really excited for what we’re going to do with The Greatest this year,” Ennis said. “We’re going to really humanise the big moments in the game’s history by having the players involved talk us through them.

“It’s been great to see the players relive some of the biggest moments in the game and run through what was going through their head at the time. It’s going to give fans an insight into the game that they haven’t seen or had before.

“We’ll be covering everything from scrum moves with Peter Sterling and Brett Kenny during the 1981 grand final, to Ricky Stuart at Wembley Stadium, to Mark Coyne’s miracle try and the evolution of Billy Slater.

“I’m just buzzing to see it all come to life on air.”
