BOXERS GEAR UP FOR ACTION
Fighters keen to aid good cause
A brief friendship with Brayd Smith left a lasting impression on Dr Lanziz Homar.
An impression so strong and positive that the gynaecologist and obstetrician is willing to step out of his comfort zone and into the boxing ring this Saturday.
“Brayd was a great young guy,” Homar said.
“I only knew him for a short period of time when I first came to Toowoomba and the chance to train with him a bit.
“This is such a great cause for Toowoomba in memory of a great friend.”
Homar has been busy training for the past three months and believes he is ready to fight.
“I don’t know much about my opponent,” Homar said.
“He is younger than me and probably much fitter and faster, but I’ve trained well over the last three months and I think I am ready.”
Homar will fight on the TGW & Smith Bring The Big Fights 19 program to help raise funds to bring a neurosurgeon to Toowoomba, a cause he is
very “Toowoomba passionate about. is a big town and we have the capacity for such a program,” he said.
“It (neurosurgeon program) would do a lot of good here not just for boxing - but for all types of head trauma cases.”
Argentinian arrives
Kris George’s opponent Maximilliano Scalzone arrived in Toowoomba yesterday.
It was not a great introduction to Australia for the Argentinian after his luggage was lost.
Despite the setback, Scalzone was in good spirits and looked well rested ahead of Saturday night’s fight.
