Cricketer set to bowl over opposition

Kimmince prepares for India challenge

CRICKET: Warwick all-rounder Delissa Kimmince has renewed confidence in her bowling as she heads to India with the Australian T20 side for five games.

Kimmince will leave Australia on March 19 for five Australian Southern Stars games in a series against India and England.

Earlier this season, Kimmince played in a T20 win against England, a game when Australia made sure they would retain the Ashes.

She will be playing in Mumbai and return to Australia on April 2.

“It will be pretty exciting to play in India,” she said.

“There is some talk of an IPL in India for the women, it would be an awesome experience if it happened.”

She has previously toured New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Dubai and England.

Kimmince has no doubt retaining the Ashes was the highlight of her season but she was also delighted she was able to execute a change up ball.

“I wasn’t that happy with my batting but was more consistent with my bowling,” she said.

“I just bowled and bowled my change up ball in practice, it is a ball I bowl out of the back of the hand like James Faulkner bowls.”

Last year, Kimmince played cricket for the Queensland Fire and Brisbane Heat and also debuted in the WAFL with the Brisbane Lions.

At the start of this season, she told Lions officials to give one of the young girls her position in the squad.

“It was just too hard to manage to play in both competitions,” she said.

“I couldn’t get to all the Lions training sessions due to cricket commitments and it is better off to have a young girl in my position who can train the whole time.”

Kimmince said this year’s WBBL meant the team was away from home more than in previous seasons.
