Netballers pass on skills to region’s young players
NETBALL: Laura Geitz loves coming home almost as much as she loves working with young netballers.
The Queensland Firebirds and Australian Diamonds player was in town this week to conduct a special skills clinic.
Alongside teammate Clare McMeniman and new Firebirds signing Amy Somerville, Geitz was excited to working with young, passionate players.
“It’s exciting being part of our first All Stars clinic – it’s a snapshot of what Firebirds training is like,” Geitz said.
“The clinics offer specialised skills development and we love working with passionate, young players.
“Being able to give something back to the netball community is very fulfilling for us.”
Geitz said the clinics also marked another exciting step forward for women in sport.
“The clinics provide another pathway for young players,” she said.
“They show all these young girls that there are opportunities and pathways there for them.
“Just because they don’t live a metro area doesn’t mean there are not opportunities for them.”
Geitz’s teammate Clare McMeniman was also excited by the opportunity to work with young players.
“What we are looking for is enthusiasm and energy,” McMeniman said.
“All the girls here are eager to listen, learn and grow.
“The Darling Downs is like home for me and Laura and we love being able to come back and work with young players.
“Toowoomba and Warwick have fantastic netball communities.”
