Cash for Oakey

-

THE Oakey Cultural Centre is set to take a step back in time to revisit timeless music of some of the world’s most legendary artists in a high-energy concert event.

Multi-award-winning singer/songwriter Dave Reynolds and his highly professional six-piece Rockabilly Show Band will roll into town on Saturday, March 17, to present the Johnny Cash Tribute.

The show will take you on a thoroughly enjoyable recollection of this legendary performer. The band will also pay homage to other classic music of Cash’s era from such great artists as Credence Clearwater Revival, Patsy Cline, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, The Shadows and Roy Orbison.

Reynolds is a stalwart in the Australian country music industry. Not only was he a Golden Guitar finalist for his highly acclaimed self-penned song 21 Guns in honour of Australia’s Light Horsemen, he also embarked on two Australian tours with Slim Dusty.

In a feat rarely seen in concert-style shows, there will also be an opportunity for audience members to shout out requests, which Reynolds and the band will perform.

While the show has travelled extensively, there is a strong link between the Rockabilly Showband and the Toowoomba region – drummer, Warren Black and guitarist Paul Hiles both call Toowoomba home.

When asked if they were looking forward to performing at Oakey, they said, “It’s always great performing close to home, not to mention catching up with some of the locals we haven’t seen for a while.”

Event promoter and Rockabilly Showband musician Tony Wagner is no stranger to bringing concerts to Oakey.

While taking a break for the past few years, Wagner previously promoted and performed five annual country music variety shows at the Oakey Cultural Centre, which proved to be popular.

“I enjoy taking quality shows to rural areas, which are often forgotten by the bigger acts,” he said.

“The Oakey crowd is always so appreciative and down to earth, which makes our experience as performers all the more worthwhile and enjoyable.”

The event starts at 7.30pm, with doors open at 6.45pm. Light refreshments will be available. Tickets are available at the Oakey Newsagency, online at www.ticketebo.com.au/johnnycashtribute or by phoning 0407 014 185.
