Women’s coach tweaks midfield ahead of game

-

FOOTBALL: It may be hard to find positives in an 8-1 defeat but Scott Teakle can see them.

And the Thunder women’s coach is ready to reward the players who were positive in the NPLW’s team loss to Gold Coast United.

“We’re a young side and that shows at times,” Teakle said.

“Sometimes we can get a bit rattled, lose our focus and it can be costly.

“But they (the players) have the right attitude.

“Zoe Brown is a good example. Even though she is only 15 we decided to go with her in midfield and she worked hard.

“She certainly did enough to keep her spot this week.

“Behind Zoe, Jai Jackson was very positive at centre back. There was a lot of pressure on her and the other defenders but she marshalled them well.”

Teakle is also hoping a positive change in the Thunder midfield might spark a more positive performance against Mitchelton today.

“We need to control the midfield more and maintain possession,” he said.

“If we have more of the ball it means we’re defending less.

“We’ve also been working on our movement in the middle and upfront.

“The return of Louise Rolfe up front will help us.

“Louise gives us a focal point upfront.”

The Thunder women play Mitchelton in Brisbane at 6pm.
