ALLISON Grimley has returned to her home town and become the head of a Maurice Blackburn’s Toowoomba office.

Mrs Grimley took up her role as office leader in November after moving back to Toowoomba while pregnant with her daughter about two years ago.

“I grew up here, I was in grade four when my family moved here and then I left Toowoomba when I finished high school to go to uni because they didn’t do law at the time at USQ,” Mrs Grimley said.

“I guess it was in the back of my mind when we started a family I suppose (to move back).

“We were living on the Gold Coast and all of my family is here, my husband’s family is here. So it was just to have that support.”

Mrs Grimley was admitted in 2011 and started doing family law when she was a law clerk.

She went on to do her masters in family law but decided to pursue a career in personal injuries work.

“I just thought becoming a lawyer would be a way I could help people,” she said.

“The best part is the clients. I never really wanted to do corporate type work where I don’t have that client contact.

“That we can help people who are going through a tough time and hopefully make that tough time a bit better.”

Mrs Grimley is not just a lawyer, but has become a qualified marriage celebrant.

While it is not something she is actively pursuing, she did get the chance to marry two of her best friends last year.

“I kind of just did that as a hobby I suppose. I don’t know why, I like weddings, I like being involved in that happy time in people’s lives. So I decided to do my marriage celebrant course,” she said.

“I was originally doing it to marry my sister and her nowhusband but she had to change the date of her wedding which meant I couldn’t get it done in time.

“I so I recently married my best friend and her partner at the end of last year in a surprise wedding.”

As for any other hobbies, Ms Grimley said she did not have much time for much else.

“My daughter keeps me pretty busy and husband just got into the police force so he is a recruit down at Oxley,” she said.

“So he is away during the week and he is home on weekends. So I just spend time with him and our daughter.”
