BASKETBALL: The Mountaineers will welcome three key signings to Toowoomba in the coming weeks.

Men’s coach Danny Morseu and women’s coach Ezy Parsons have been active off-court in a bid to strengthen their sides ahead of the 2018 QBL season.

Having scoured the US college system, Parsons has added University of Arizona guard Malene Washington.

Parsons believes the promising young Wildcats star will add a great deal of leadership to her side.

“She will make a great point general and will be able to help the younger girls by providing tips and knowledge while also being a promising player herself,” Parsons said.

“Malene was averaging 13 points a game for Arizona. Her experience alone will be a huge asset.”

For the men, Morseu has moved quickly to replace the shock loss of star player Demetrius Perkins.

Late last week Perkins suffered an injury – ruling him out of the 2018 QBL season.

“Danny was shattered when he received the news,” Toowoomba Mountaineers Ltd chairman John Gouldson said.

“But full credit to him, he moved quickly and we have two very exciting players joining us next week.

“Damon Bozeman, who was trialling with Melbourne United, has signed alongside Harold Ridgeway.

“We’re very excited to have Damon on board and Ridgeway is a big sevenfooter who will dominate the boards for us.”

With the season just over a month away Gouldson said the atmosphere was electric around the club.

“We’re very excited,” he said. “Ezy has been very active with the girls squad and they’re shaping up beautifully and working really hard.

“Danny has the boys looking great as well.”
