INDOOR CRICKET: Toowoomba’s best young female indoor cricketers will have a big say in the outcome of this year’s Australian Junior Championships.

Playing on their home court, Toowoomba will have eight players in the Queensland under-14 girls squad.

Toowoomba Dragons representative Katrina Teske said Toowoomba’s strong representation in the U14 side was testament to the hard work of many people.

“It’s a great result for the Dragons and cricket in general,” Teske said.

“A lot of hard work has been put into developing the juniors – not just by us – but by Toowoomba cricket, Queensland Cricket and Cricket Australia.

“It’s also a great sign of the positive culture we are trying to foster.”

Toowoomba will play host to the junior and open championships in June and July this year.

More than 1000 players are expected to be in action – with Action Indoor Sports Toowoomba a hive of activity from 8.30am to 7pm every day of the tournaments.

“It’s an exciting time for Toowoomba – it will be a huge

event,” Teske said.

“We’ve hosted nationals in the past but this will be the first time we’ve hosted the juniors and opens.

“We expect to be running six or seven courts everyday.” 30-July 7 and the juniors from July 7-July 14. Indoor cricket centres were required to express their interest to host the championships to their state governing body. Each state then selected two nominations to forward to Cricket Australia for consideration.
