Don’t fall for antics of dodgy door-knocking girls in town

POLICE are warning residents not to fall for the antics of two girls door-knocking homes across Toowoomba.

Toowoomba police confirm reports two girls, known to have bald or shaved heads and who had previously scammed funds claiming to be from the Leukaemia Foundation, are active in the city.

Social media has lit up with reports from residents who answered knocks at the door only to be asked for everything from money for a taxi, a phone to call their parents, and to use the bathroom.

The girls seem most prevalent in the Harristown and Newtown areas, but other suburbs have also been targeted.

While the girls with shaved heads are the most commonly reported, police confirmed there were other girls doing similar things and believe the groups know each other.

Toowoomba Crime Prevention Unit Sergeant Tony Rehn confirmed police had received multiple reports of the girls.

Those include requests for money for various things, for food or to use a bathroom.

“Anybody who comes to the door asking for that, treat it as a suspicious situation and don’t let them inside the house,” Sgt Rehn warned.

“Call the police and advise us that they are there.”

Police believe the girls, connected to the Leukaemia Foundation scam attempt in Toowoomba three weeks ago, are walking between suburbs but it’s possible they have been given lifts.

Residents should report the girls to Policelink on 131 444.
