Students rally for Sunday’s military challenge

STUDENTS at Clifford Park Special School are raring to go for this weekend’s Milne Bay Military Challenge.

While most of the pupils taking part have bushwalked before - like climbing Tabletop Mountain - for the majority it will be the first time they have tackled the challenge, which traverses the rugged terrain of Jubilee and Redwood Parks.

But they’re not daunted by the task, with student Drake Ronke, who is doing the 7km route, saying it’ll be an easy walk.

Teacher Jeremy Cox said the students were excited to take part.

“It gives them a sense of achievement, I think,” he said.

“It’s a pretty big walk, it’s fun, and a great team-building exercise.

“Some of our students take part in the Glennie District Athletics Carnival, so this is good training and good preparation for them.”

The challenge takes place this Sunday and features separate 7km, 15km and 30km routes.

After completing the 15km route last year, one CPSS student has decided to try their hand at the 30km route.

The event raises money for Toowoomba-based charities, and is an initiative of the Rotary Club of Toowoomba South and Rotary Edge.

Registrations close today at 5pm, and organisers are urging people to sign up before its too late. For information or for last-minute registrations, visit https://milnebaymilitarychallenge.com/.
