PITTSWORTH DANES

-

LAST YEAR

12-4, grand finalists

THE YEAR AHEAD

COACH Ian Brackstone said the extra effort was a factor for his troops, who had to play each week of the finals.

“I think it told in hindsight,” Brackstone said.

“Dalby is a very good team, and losing Tom O’Sullivan and Cam Miller didn’t help us.

“It wasn’t the most enjoyable grand final day, but I was still proud.”

Brackstone said this season looked to be one of the closest yet, as he aimed to have his side ready for round one.

“We’ve been trying to get some combinations as we have a few new players,” he said.

“Unfortunately we have had only one trial early in February, and Noosa fell through due to weather.

“I think it’s going to be a close competition. Most teams are stronger and every win is important.

“There might be one or two teams that clear out, but third to eighth will be close.” PLAYER TO WATCH

“I’ll be looking forward to watching Kurtis Shayler. He played with us until 2016 before going to the Cronulla Sharks 20s,” Brackstone said.

VERDICT

It was a tough ask for Pittsworth to back up week after week in the finals last year, so they will be hoping for a toptwo finish this time around.

The addition of Shayler is massive, as well as the return of Cam Miller from injury.

It might take them a few weeks to get into the swing of things, but if they can land a prominent spot in the finals, other teams need to watch their tails.
