SOUTHERN SUBURBS TIGERS

-

LAST YEAR 8-8, 6th

THE YEAR AHEAD

SOUTHS had a tumultuous and very public battle as they struggled for numbers heading into the season, but their future has been secured.

They have recruited coach Leo Dynevor, formerly with the Wests Magpies, and he said he was looking forward to leading the charge.

“We were coming into the season behind the eight-ball and looking very shaky at the start of the season numbers wise,” Dynevor said.

“We’ve certainly got some players coming back to the club, and now it is flourishing with players, which is comforting to say the least.

“I’m looking forward to the season. I’m new here, and living in Brisbane and will travel up.”

Dynevor said he wanted his side to play an exciting brand of football as opposed to keeping it restricted to the forwards.

“I like to play expansive football. I’m not one to bash it up the middle,” he said.

“We have a few guys who lead well and can move the ball a lot more.

“I’m not sure what other teams do. I just know what I can do.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

“Dwayne Duncan can showcase a lot of class as he did last year. Jacob Whittaker is a leader and looks very fit and keen,” Dynevor said.

VERDICT

It got scary at times for the Tigers in the pre-season, with it looking at one stage like there was a serious chance of them not competing this year.

Thankfully they remain after a dedicated push from past players and the community.

After making the finals last year, it’s hard to see them getting close to that feat in 2018, but they can use this season as a way to rebuild their future.

PREDICTED FINISH 10th
