Good fishing reports still around for dam anglers

- WITH KRIS GEORGE FROM FISH ’N’ BITS BAIT & TACKLE

COOBY DAM

SOME decent reports have been coming in from Cooby this past week.

Saltwater yabbies have been the most popular bait while blades have been picking up quite a few jigging tight to the bottom with TN60’s becoming quite popular for the trolling anglers.

LESLIE DAM

LESLIE continues to produce reasonable numbers of smaller fish in the late afternoon in the deeper water where the old creek bed runs, usually in around 25ft of water.

The boat traffic throughout the day has slowed things a little and the afternoon bite window is by far the best.

Saltwater yabbies and blood worms have been the pick of the bait for the other anglers.

SOMERSET DAM

SOMERSET has still been producing some good fish this past week, just not the quality we were seeing a few weeks back.

Trolling has definitely been the pick of the techniques when the fishing is a little tougher.

Trolling deep diving hard bodies or spinnerbaits are great for this technique

BJELKE-PETERSON DAM

BJELKE-PETERSON is still going strong this week with massive amounts of fish landed.

With a rise in water level in the last week has seen some good fish being caught off the edge, casting lipless crankbaits like the Jackall TN60 have been accounting for some great fish.

COOLMUNDA DAM

The trend continues at Coolmunda with some nice being taken mainly jigging ZX blades out from the boat ramp and other locations in the main basin of the lake again in around that 18ft mark.

Saltwater yabbies have been good in the timber for yellowbelly and small cod while casting spinnerbaits in the timbered area has produced the better quality cod.

GOLD COAST

INSHORE has seen a rise in the numbers of mangrove jack due to the recent rain, while, bream and whiting have also picked up this last week after the dirtier water has been pushed out from the big tides.

Offshore has been hit and miss this last week, with the weather not being on people’s side.

Quite a few mackerel have been landed, mainly on trolled skirts or hard bodies.

It’s that time of year where the long tail tuna can start showing up.

Out from Jumpinpin bar has seen some great tuna caught on quite a variety lures, such as plastics, stick baits and slugs.
