Time for TRL players to command spotlight

- WITH SPORTS EDITOR JASON GIBBS

IT’S BEEN a tumultuous offseason in the TRL.

In the player market there have been a lot of ins and outs – unfortunately for quite a few clubs there are a lot more outs than ins.

Even the referee and official stocks are looking a little slim.

But thankfully we get to put all that behind us this weekend.

On Saturday Pittsworth play host to Dalby – a replay of the 2017 grand final.

All the talking heads and concerns about player shortages should fall silent as the game and the players take centre.

The big question now is can Dalby do it again?

The Diehards dominated the Danes in last year’s final to secure their first premiership.

They’ve lost a few players to retirement – including 2017 skipper Colin Green – but their level of commitment and passion is unquestionable.

Last year’s assistant coach Derek Brady takes the reins this year and I expect them to be among the best again.

Regardless of who is near the top or propping up the table I’m just excited to the TRL is back.

Fingers crossed we have a 2018 season that matches the excitement of 2017.

Boo-hoo Broncos

AM I the only one who is shocked by the kicking the Broncos are getting after their round one loss?

I think it’s a little too early to be talking about “fixing the Broncos” or “how far away from winning the premiership” they are.

Don’t get me wrong; as a Melbourne Storm fan I’d love to see them lose every game – but fair suck of the sauce bottle.

I know this is somewhat ironic – considering I’m a member of the media and it is my “brethren” doing the kicking, but I believe we’re merely voicing the opinion of Brisbane’s fans.

The expectations of Brisbane are high but it’s only one game – why not wait for another five or six more before the pitchforks come out.
